What is National Junior Honor Society?

National Junior Honor Society is an organization that recognizes and encourages academic achievement while also developing other characteristics essential to citizens in a democracy. The NJHS member reflects outstanding accomplishment in the areas of scholarship, character, leadership, citizenship, and service.

All seventh and eighth grade students with a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher are invited to join. In addition to maintaining or improving their GPA, Honor Society members will be asked to complete 15 hours of community service outside of school. Members also need to have at least 91 of their 101 points with no major infraction either in or out of school. NJHS members must complete their 15 hours of community service by the designated spring deadline to be inducted into membership and attend the Induction Ceremony in the spring where they receive the recognition pin.

An Agenda Meeting for possible new members will be Wednesday, October 17th at 9:00 am in the Commons. Commitment Forms will be handed out and must be signed and returned by Wednesday, October 24th.

If your student is new to Beaver Lake and you think they would qualify for NJHS but did not receive an invitation, check wit the counseling office to make sure they have received your student’s school records from their previous school. The counseling office will then notify me and I will make sure they get an invitation.

General membership meetings are held two to three times a year. Meetings are usually on Wednesday mornings beginning at 9:00. The first general membership meeting will be on Wednesday, October 24th at 9:00 am. Dates of meetings will be read in the morning announcements, posted outside my room, D-8, and on the school website.

A great place to check for community service opportunities is outside my room, D-8 or the website: www.volunteermatch.com.
