BEAVER LAKE MIDDLE SCHOOL
PHYSICAL EDUCATION DEPARTMENT
LEVEL SYSTEM GRADING CRITERIA
The goals of our teaching staff provide for success for every individual student, regardless of physical abilities. We attempt to present activities in a way that will encourage effort, preparedness, positive attitude, sportsmanship, cooperation, and improvement. Teaching, reinforcement and evaluation of these behaviors are our primary objectives. We believe that students who work on these areas will make natural improvement in the skill and performance aspects of physical education. Participation is winning!!
Your grade in Physical Education at BLMS will reflect your ability to meet the following "self-responsibility goals" and corresponding point values.
A daily grade will be assigned to each student according to the criteria below. Each student begins the period with 3 points and has the opportunity to move up or down. Absent students will be assigned a score of three for the day.
LEVEL 4: CHALLENGES SELF These students consistently show excellent levels of effort and caring, regardless of ability. They seek extra help from the teacher for skill development and are always willing to help and encourage others. They are motivated to extend their sense of responsibility by being prepared, cooperative, supportive and attentive. They can make and accept judgment calls, and sportsmanship and citizenship are foremost in their minds.
LEVEL 3: SELF DIRECTED These students are able to make good decisions and take responsibility for their choices and actions. They are able to work without direct supervision and are able to give a high level of effort throughout the class period. They are punctual and prepared for any and all activities presented in class and contribute to a positive classroom environment.
LEVEL 2: ADEQUATE These students not only show self-control, but are involved in the activity or subject matter. They may need reminders from time to time about keeping up on effort, staying on task or being attentive.
LEVEL 1: SELECTIVE PARTICIPATION These students may not fully participate in the day’s activity or show much effort, mastery or improvement. They are able to control their behavior enough so that they don’t interfere with another student’s right to learn or the teacher’s right to teach.
LEVEL 0: UNACCEPTABLE These students are unmotivated, unprepared or undisciplined. Their behavior includes discrediting or making fun of other students, intentionally interrupting the learning process, misusing equipment, using profanity or being unsafe.
In addition to these criteria, non-suits will also affect your grade.
