 STUDENT EXPECTATIONS AND ORGANIZATION

Each student will be keeping an organized outline of all assignments .Individual assignments may be taken home and returned the following day and/or due date.

Required Materials

Each Student will be responsible for having a health notebook where they will keep all notes, and responses to journal prompts. Failure to have a notebook will affect their grade.

 ASSIGNMENTS

Each student will keep an assignment log .There should be no excuses for being unaware of a due date.  Each assignment needs to have your full name and period on it in order for me to record the appropriate grade.  Illegible assignments will be returned to the student for re-writing and considered late.  Late assignments will not be accepted for any type of credit.  If you do not turn it when it is due, I will not take it.

There will not be any extra credit assignments, therefore it is your responsibility to seek help when needed and keep up with class work.

 ABSENCE

This course is not taught exclusively from the book.  There will be discussions, videos, use of computers, and guest speakers that make it very difficult sometimes to make up missed work.  For example, videos and computer work will be required to be made up before and after school.  It is the student’s responsibility to schedule make-ups.

When you return from an absence, check with me for work that you missed.   Make up work is due within the same amount of days you have been absent unless you pre-arrange an extension.  This arrangement must be made before the due date.  Note – this is often an area where students fall behind.  It is extremely important to check with the teacher on a regular basis.

CLASSROOM ATTENTION

Students must be in the classroom when class begins.  The clock does not excuse students at the end of the period, the teacher does.  Please do not pack-up early, as you may miss important information.  Unexcused late students may receive a tardy lunch ticket and will need to do lunch clean-up duty.   It is important that everyone feel comfortable in this class due to the nature of some of the subjects.  I will not accept put-downs or remarks making fun of anyone for any reason.  Some of the things we talk about may be sensitive to some people, so we must be careful what we say and how we express ourselves.

 GRADES

Grades are based on class and homework assignments, projects, quizzes and tests.  The academic grade is weighted as follows:

            Daily Classwork/Homework Assignments                     40%

            Projects                                                                        35%

            Quizzes and Tests                                                         25%

The grading scale is as follows:

93% - 100%  A                                   80% - 82%  B-                                                67% - 69%  D+

90% – 92%   A-                                  77% - 79%  C+                                   60% - 66%  D

87% - 89%    B+                                 73% - 76%  C                                     0% - 59%    F

83% - 86%    B                                    70% - 72%  C-

 DISCIPLINE

If discipline problems occur, the student and I will address the problem and document our discussion.  If a problem arises multiple times or is considered severe, I will follow the school’s discipline system and may ask for parental involvement in working out the problem.  I have a zero tolerance policy for creating a problem for a substitute teacher.  I consider this a severe offense and a 101 slip will automatically be issued.
