Welcome to Mrs. Pritchett's Classroom! 8th Grade Humanities 2009-2010 425-837-6371 pritchettd@issaquah.wednet.edu Classroom Expectations Below are a few things that exhibit "being in the right place, at the right time, doing the right thing." 1. Come to class on time, prepared to learn, with all materials and assignments organized and ready to use. This means books, notebook, planner, pencils/pens, paper, assignments, red pen for correcting, and OR book. 2. Raise your hand when you wish to speak. 3. Be respectful of classmates, teacher, classroom, and property of classmates and classroom. 4. Respect others' thoughts and ideas; be a courteous listener. 5. When you need help... ASK! 6. Take pride in your work and do your best. Neglecting to follow these simple requests will effect your participation grade, overall grade, and will result in further consequences. Make this your year to be super organized and conscientious! Be your own advocate. Homework Expectations There will be homework most evenings. Homework assignments are those bulleted items written on the white board when you enter the room each day. Language Arts assignments are written in blue and Social Studies assignments are written in green. It is your responsibility to record these in your planner on a daily basis as soon as you enter the classroom. I do not put daily assignments on my website. I do, however, put long term assignments in for you. Using your planner is a skill you MUST learn. All assignments should follow these guidelines: * Must have appropriate heading in the correct place including full name, subject and period, and name of assignment (unless it is a worksheet). * Must be done on lined loose leaf notebook paper...spiral paper with "ruffles" will not be accepted. * Must be neatly written in pencil or pen unless previously specified by me. For illegible work, you will receive one "do over", after that... it will receive no credit. *Must be properly formatted, according to directions, and follow correct conventions. *Nameless assignments will receive zero credit and will be placed in the "No name=zero credit" bin. I have provided each of you with two late homework coupons. Be sure you refer to the 8th Grade Humanities packet of information so you will know how these work. Grading Refer to your first day packet for percentages and grading scale. It is also located in the Handbook section of your planner. Some assignments will be graded based on completion and some will be graded for accuracy. Regardless, missing assignments will lower your grade. I will post grades on Family Access in a timely manner. I highly recommend you check Family Access each week. If I have made an error in posting a grade, bring the assignment to me and I can remedy the mistake. Do not throw graded assignments away until after grading has been completed for the trimester!! Absences If you are absent from class, it is YOUR responsibility to pick up any assignments you missed and record missed assignments in your planner. Any handouts you missed will be placed in the hanging file container in the front of the room and my planner will be in there as well. You will have one day for each day of absence to turn in your work and make up any missed tests. (This is an Issaquah School District policy that will be used in high school.) Make-up work should be placed in the bin labeled "Make-up work" on the bookshelf next to the hanging file container. If you miss a quiz or a test, I will place a make-up reminder slip (bright yellow) in the daily folder with your name and test missed on it. IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO SCHEDULE YOUR MAKE-UP TEST WITH ME IN A TIMELY MANNER. If you are absent the day a long-term major assignment/project is due, make arrangements for a friend or family member to bring it to school on the due date - NO EXCEPTIONS!!! So, stay healthy and come to school regularly. Tardy Policy You are considered tardy if you are not in your seat with need materials when the class period begins. On the first and second tardy, you will be given lunch duty. Any further incidences will result in a 101 and possible private dining. Communication This is your last year of middle school. I cannot stress enough how important it is that you learn how to communicate with your teachers. We are not here to "bite your head off!" We are here because we care about kids and value education. DO NOT ASK YOUR PARENTS TO COMMUNICATE FOR YOU!!! If you need to talk with me you can email me, come in after school, or make an appointment with me that will accommodate your schedule. I am here to help you but I cannot read your mind. So speak up... I know this will be a great year for all of you. |
