EXPECTATIONS and GUIDELINES To maintain the highest quality program possible, I would like to familiarize you with the program guidelines. CLOTHING REQUIREMENTS The clothing required for physical education class consists of: · BLMS P.E. shirt or plain light gray T-shirt · Navy or black elastic waist athletic shorts (solid color) (no jeans or baggy/sagging shorts, no zippers, snaps or buttons and they must be above the knee) · Athletic socks that are preferably not worn to school · Athletic shoes (An athletic shoe - preferably used only for P.E. A slip-on shoe is not acceptable and because a shoe has a rubber sole does not classify it as an athletic shoe. Black sole shoes must not make marks on the gym floor.) When classes are held outside, students are encouraged to have sweatpants and sweatshirts. All P.E. clothing is to be taken home to be washed on Friday and brought back on Monday. NON-SUITS Everyone is expected to change into the required P.E. clothes. The following system will be used for unexcused non-suits each trimester. Each non-suit will result in Level 0 for that day as well as the following: *First non-suit: a warning *Second non-suit: 101 slip (3 points)/parent signature required
All students are required to dress in appropriate clothes & shoes conducive for fitness and recreational activities. Clean loaner clothes are available from the teacher in the locker room. Use of loaner clothes lowers the student’s daily grade one level and excessive use of loaner clothes will result in the loss of loaner privilege. PARTICIPATION Everyone is expected to change into the P.E. uniform and participate in class activities every day unless he/she is ill or injured. If a student is ill or injured, a note from home will excuse him/her from some or all participation for that day. The instructor will exercise the best possible judgment as to the amount of participation permitted. Depending on the activities of the day, some form of participation may be possible. If a student must be excused from physical activity for more than three days in a row, he/she needs a written excuse from a medical doctor. The excuse should state how long the student will be out and in which activities the student should be limited. Fitness Wednesdays Every class period will include some type of cardiovascular, muscular strength and flexibility training. Wednesday’s will be devoted solely to fitness with a focus on improving cardiovascular fitness levels by running. GRADING – See level 4 sheet. Make-Ups – If a student is absent or sits out a period of PE for injury or illness, a make-up will be required to receive full credit for the day. You can get a make-up slip from the link at the bottom of this page, and it must be signed by your parent once the make-up is complete. All make-ups must be turned in before the end of the trimester to receive credit. If no slips are turned in, you will receive a zero for all class periods missed. OFF CAMPUS ACTIVITIES On occasion, classes will be taken on a walk/jog on the surrounding pathways and sidewalks adjacent to campus, Challenger Elementary, and the King County Park. We are fortunate to have these areas to enhance the enjoyment of exercise and activities.
PUNCTUALITY/TARDINESS Everyone is expected to be in the locker room at the start of class and ready in 5 minutes to go to the gym. Tardiness into the locker room and/or squad lines will result in a tardy lunch slip. After the third tardy, a 101 slip will be issued. Students are not to leave the locker room until the end of the period. Five minutes are allowed for changing at the end of the class. LOCKERS · A small square locker and combination lock will be assigned for P.E. clothes and personal belongings. · A tall locker is provided and must be used only during class time for school clothes. Use the lock to secure it. Do not leave the lock and belongings in a tall locker for more than one class period. · A lost lock must be paid for and a new one will be issued to the student. Locks from home are not to be used. · All valuables should be left at home. The school is not responsible for items not locked up. SAFETY/ACCIDENTS Safety is an important aspect of the P.E. program at BLMS. All students are expected to contribute to a safe learning environment by following safety guidelines and using common sense. As elsewhere in the school, ALL accidents/injuries should be immediately reported to the instructor in charge. Students having an illness or an accident/injury arising at school may be sent to the school nurse/office. EQUIPMENT The equipment is highly durable and manufactured for excessive use. In the event a piece of equipment is broken or lost, notify the instructor immediately. If the equipment was broken due to the improper use by the student, he/she may be responsible for the item.
