Students and Parents:

I feel it is important to outline my assertive/ positive classroom management system so that you know what is expected in my class.  In order to provide an effective learning climate, I have devised 5 Basic Rules in class.  They are as follows:

1.    Follow directions the first time they are given.

2.    Be in your seat, with materials ready, when class begins.

3.    Raise your hand and wait to be called upon.

4.    Keep hands, feet, objects, name calling, and teasing to your self.

5.    Clean up your work space and the area around you before leaving class.

In the event that a student chooses to not follow the class rules, there is a hierarchy of consequences that will apply.  In order for the rules to apply, the consequences begin with a warning and increase in severity with each infraction.  The hierarchy starts over each day, therefore, a student who makes a bad choice on one day, starts the next day with a clean slate.  Below you will see the standards for consequences:

Step 1.    Warning #1: Name goes on a clipboard

Step 2.    Warning #2: Student stays one minute after class

Step 3.    Warning #3: Student stays two minutes after class

Step 4.    Warning #4: Student stays two minutes after class and the parents will be notified about the situation

Step 5.    Final Warning: Student stays two minutes after class, parents are notified,101 slip is given, and child is sent to principal's office.

**Severity Clause: Should any child become violent, refuse to follow directions, or become verbally abusive, that student will be sent to the principal's office and will be automatically put on step 5.
