"History is Bunk"
"Those who do not remember the past are
bound to repeat it"
Which quote do you agree with? In history,
we will be exploring and analyzing historical themes, how history has
shaped our world from your own family experience all the way to its impact
on our world today. We cover the period of Pre-Columbian
to Reconstruction in the U.S. as well as linking every theme that comes up
in history to the present through parallel examples or impact today.
You will understand that history is not a series of isolated events that
have nothing to do with each other and our world currently, rather you
will see that there is a connection to events and the impact of these
events can be seen in our age. So is "history bunk"? Not if
you truly come to understand the bigger picture of our history. Are
we bound to repeat mistakes in history? Not if you truly come to
understand that we all can shape and impact our current history.
In Language Arts we will read various short stories
as well as Mice and Men and Tom Sawyer. You will explore
issues in these stories, compare them to your life and develop excellent
literature response writing skills that will allow you to be an effective
and knowledgeable communicator, a skill that will be helpful throughout
your life. You will also write short stories and poetry to develop
your personal writing styles and self-expression in writing.
