BLMS Homepage

Homework is posted on the walls of the classroom during class in two places, and students are given time and expected to write it in their planner as I announce it verbally before leaving class each day.  As a way that parents can "trust and verify" assignments and due dates, I will also post them here.  I will do my best to post homework before I leave school each day.

The Week of 6/8-12 and 6/15-17

All students should be prepared to present their Decade when they are scheduled to do so.  Groups will need to turn in a typed script and their timeline when they present.  Other than that, there will be no additional homework assignments.

Monday, 6/15: During School: Locker cleanout (bring a plastic bag!), 8th grade promotion practice in the gym at BLMS, yearbooks distributed (have all your fines paid in advance!).  Dismissal will be at 10:27 A.M.

Tuesday, 6/16: Spring Fling ... Dismissal will be at 10:27 A.M.

Monday LA: Students should work with their groups and make progress on their decades assignment.  Part I and Part II (individual work) are due on Friday, 6/5.  Group Lesson Plans for Part III are due on Wednesday, and scripts are due on the day students present.  Presentation days were announced today in class.

All OR assignments for trimester three are due on Wednesday, June 3rd.  No exceptions will be made to this deadline.

SS: The Civil War final exam is Tuesday, 6/2.  Students will need to turn in their Civil War notes and their Civil War study guides tomorrow before the test.

Friday All eighth graders should be ready to present on their decades presentation date.  Rubrics for the presentation were distributed earlier this week and reviewed in class.

Props/food/etc. can be dropped off in P7 from 7:15-7:30 A.M. on the day of your presentation, and must be taken home the same day (or 20 points will be subtracted from your final project grade).

On the day of your presentation, you must have  a printed copy of your script for Mrs. Matheny and must have your timeline completed.  There will be no time to print on presentation days.

SS: Students should complete Journal #6: Antietam and the Emancipation Proclamation for Wednesday's class.  Students can use page 594-595 and page 606 in their textbook to complete the journal entry.

Tuesday LA: Have a parent or guardian sign your O.R. log for Wednesday's class.

Friday LA: Students should prepare a double-spaced draft of their Of Mice and Men essay for Monday's class.

Monday LA: Students should read chapter four in OM&M and should complete the reading analysis questions for Tuesday's class.

SS: Civil War Regiments should complete their esprit d'corps (nametags, battle flags, and battle cries)  for the beginning of tomorrow's class.

Be sure to bring your Civil War journal to class tomorrow.

CBA Constitutional Issues Persuasive Research Paper Rewrites are due on Tuesday, May 5th. 

Tuesday LA: Students should have a parent or guardian sign their O.R. log for Wednesday's class.  All O.R. book talks and write-ups for trimester III are due on June 3rd.

SS: Students should complete Civil War journal entry #1 (Fort Sumter) for tomorrow's class.  Students should underline five excellent and academic facts and include, at minimum, two vocabulary words from the back of the journal prompt.

Thursday LA:  Students should complete #7-12 in the commentary packet for tomorrow's class.  Students must bring their Of Mice and Men novels to class tomorrow.

SS: Students should read "Seeing the Elephant" and should highlight important facts and supporting details on their copy of the article for tomorrow's class.

Friday LA:  Students should complete #13-22 in the commentary packet for tomorrow's class.  Students must bring their Of Mice and Men novels to class tomorrow.

SS: Students should complete Civil War Journal Entry #2 (Bull Run I/Manassas) for Monday's class.

Homework for the week of 4/27- 5/01

Monday LA: Highlight all passages that relate to "setting" in chapter one (p. 1-16) of your copy of the novel.

Next, answer the chapter one discussion questions in phrases or sentences. Include a quote with as many answers as you can, but a quote is required for questions three and six.

For Outside Reading, students must have turned in one book talk and one write up by Mid-Trimester 3, which is Wednesday, April 29th.

SS: Complete the second half of the Road to the Civil War study guide for tomorrow's test.  If you have questions about the test, come to see me tomorrow morning before school to clarify.

Monday LA: "The Scarlet Ibis" Literary Analysis Essay rewrites are due on Tuesday, 3/10.  Please see the yellow rewrite form for details and requirements.

Read chapters 33 and 34 in Tom Sawyer, and complete the Style Journal for those chapters.  Chapter presentations for chapters 31-34 will be on Tuesday.
