*** A note about Outside Reading Grades
posted on Family Access for Mid-Trimester One***

Students are asked to read 600 pages per trimester for O.R.  The pages they have read are entered into their grade once students have turned in both an "Outside Reading Book Talk Parent Signature Page" as well as a completed "Outside Reading Writeup."

At Mid-Trimester, I post the total number of pages that your student has completed thus far.  That grade will go up as soon as students turn in Book Talk Forms and Writeups.  If your student has a zero thus far, he or she can still earn full credit as long as the assignments are turned in before the trimester ends.  One writeup and one book talk are accepted per week.

Thanks!  Don't hesitate to contact me via email with questions.

I want my grading systems to be as transparent to students and parents as possible.  I will provide students with scoring guides or rubrics for all major and most minor assignments.

Please use Family Access to check your grades on a weekly basis.  Many families find it useful to have a weekly "grade check time" to make sure that students, parents, and teachers all have the same up-to-date information.

I update Family Access weekly, usually by Thursday evening, with all the work that I have already assessed in order that students have time to ask questions on Friday and get any answers before a weekend.

Extra copies of handouts are available in the "Extra Handouts" bin for students who missed class or who need an extra copy for any reason.

Students or parents who have a question about an assignment should:

  1. Check their binder for the work
  2. Check their returned work file for the work
  3. Check the no-name bin for the work
  4. Check the agenda for when the work was submitted
  5. Write Mrs. Matheny an email or put a note in your class's inbox detailing your question or concern
  6. If at all possible, include the original copy of the assignment in question
  7. I will respond to your request in a timely manner

Thanks so much for your work and patience!  Enjoy your day!
